How To Care For Your Tattoo
After getting a tattoo, proper aftercare is crucial to ensure that your new ink heals properly. Here are some tips to follow:
With Dermshield
-
Keep your Dermshield bandage on for 3-4 days after initial application
-
After that period, gently remove your bandage under warm water to help break up the adhesive, and follow the "without Dermshield" instructions below
-
Dermshield may fill up with with fluid. This is normal. Do not poke or drain
-
If Dermshield leaks, remove promptly and follow "without Dermshield" instructions
-
You can shower with your bandage on, but try to keep showers short and not too hot
-
Without Dermshield
-
When you get home, remove saran wrap and wash tattoo with unscented fragrance free antibacterial soap until all residue is removed and it feels like your normal skin texture again
-
Only use your hands, do not wash with loofah, washcloth, etc.
-
-
Let tattoo air dry before applying a thin layer of an unscented moisturizer
-
Do not oversaturate/over-moisturize your tattoo, this can prolong the healing process
-
-
If needed, you can take an anti inflammatory for discomfort
-
Continue to wash your new tattoo with the above method 2-3 times a day, and apply lotion when your tattoo is dry or itchy until fully healed (approx. 3-4 weeks)
-
Avoid petroleum based lotions/ointments. A good moisturizer should be color and fragrance free
-
